Every solar generator advertises a headline wattage and a headline capacity, and shoppers routinely mix the two up. Here is how these units work, the difference that trips up most buyers, and the specs worth comparing before you spend.

What does a solar generator actually do?

A solar generator is a portable power station: a rechargeable battery, an inverter that turns stored power into standard wall-outlet electricity, and a set of ports. The "solar" part means it can refill from panels, though not every unit ships with one in the box.
